It's about time

Are the dems comin' around?
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A top U.S. Democratic senator said in a newspaper interview published Wednesday that he would consider supporting opening up new areas for offshore oil and gas drilling.

"I'm open to drilling and responsible production," Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin told The Wall Street Journal, adding that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could also support the move.

However, Durbin said his support for opening new areas to drilling was contingent on setting requirements that oil and gas companies begin production within a specified time frame on acreage they have leased from the government.
Just do it already.

I'm sorry, I don't understand why you guys (conservatives) are so eager to kill off the polar bears for a little bit of money. Perhaps, this is what doesn't make you very endearing to large segmenets of the population.

Drilling in Alaska would not make the land sustainable over the long run and it wouldn't make us less oil dependent. The only people who would benefit from it would be the gas companies. I mean, I'm not saying I wouldn't mind a billions barrells of oil falling into our lap, if we found it in the gulf of mexico.

But it's not really a very green solution, it will just destroy one the last part of the world that hasn't been tampered with.

By the way, i study transportation polcy.

Sure, drop the sentimental emotional polar bear appeal.

Did you know polar bears are the only species of mammal that are known to actively hunt humans?

Of the 19 recognized polar bear subpopulations, ONLY 5 are declining, 5 are stable, 2 are increasing, and 7 have insufficient data.

They are classified as Lower Risk -Conservation Dependent by the IUCN.

And you're saying you'd be ok finding oil in the gulf of Mexico but not Alaska? Because...oil spills down south or on the coast of Florida or Mexico wouldn't bother you at all. Who cares about red snapper, amberjack, tilefish, swordfish, grouper, shrimp, crabs, or oysters? We don't need to eat! We just need to save the polar bears!

You better come at "us (conservative) guys" with a little more than polar bears to scare me away from drilling.

okonheim...who cares about Polar Bears? They'll adapt and survive just like they've been doing for thousands of years.

You study "Transportation Policy"? Who gives a shit?

Go back to your cave and light a twig. Twit.
